Armed Forces Bowl: Scouting BYU
When the BYU Cougars (9-3) opted for independence starting this season, it said farewell to a slew of opportunities around the western United States at which they could have played in the postseason. Granted, none were really great, including the often-visited Las Vegas Bowl.
Instead, the Cougars were able this fall to take themselves around the country during the regular season (this will be a third trip to Texas; Hawaii and Mississippi have also been on the docket) and locked itself in to the Armed Forces Bowl.
BYU went to five straight postseason games in Las Vegas before going to the New Mexico Bowl last December, easily handling UTEP in one of the bowl schedule's worst games.
Now, so much has changed.
