Hard-hitting PSL safety likes State

Detroit Renaissance safety Derek Knight has not yet received the recognition of Top 100 defensive backs Ronald Johnson and Dionte Allen. But college recruiters have taken notice of Knight, who is picking scholarship offers from around the country at an impressive pace

Michigan State is among the schools in the mix for Knight, whom Renaissance coach Ron Watts confidently labels the best safety in the nation.

The 6-foot-0, 200 pound Knight is still adjusting to all of the attention he has received. "I am very humble about it," said Knight. "Right now I am interested in the schools that have showed me the most interest."

Georgia Tech and UCLA are two of the schools that Knight is taking a close look at. He also likes Michigan State and Illinois. Miami (OH) University, the first school to offer Knight a scholarship, holds a special place in the Detroit safety's heart.
