Tulsa raced out to a 22-4 advantage over the first ten minutes of the opening half, and Clarkson buried three of his treys during the barrage. The Pirates collected themselves and fought back, closing the gap to 40-33 at the half.
East Carolina pulled within two points late in the second half, but with just 44 seconds to play, Maduka converted a traditional three-point play to push Tulsa's lead to 70-65.
