The University of Tulsa Head Basketball Coach Danny Manning announced today the addition of transfer guard Cedrick McAfee to the Golden Hurricane basketball program.

McAfee comes to Tulsa from Auburn University, where he played limited time last season. He is enrolled in classes at TU, and will sit out the 2012-13 season and have three years of eligibility remaining.

"Cedrick is a very athletic player," Manning said. "He has a reputation as a scorer, and he is going to be a competitor. Those are the types of young men that we are looking to continuously bring into our program - those that compete at a high level. We certainly expect him to do that for us."

A native of Memphis, Tenn., McAfee was ranked as a Top 150 player nationally by Rivals.com, and was a two-time first-team Tennessee All-State Class AAA selection as a junior and senior at Melrose High School in Memphis. He averaged 15.2 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.4 steals and 1.4 assists as a high school senior in 2010-11.

McAfee was the District 16-AAA Most Valuable Player in 2010-11, a two-time Tennessee All-Region selection, and was named among the top-five Commercial Appeal Best of the Preps. He averaged 24 points at Craigmont High School in 2009-10, before transferring to Melrose High School in the middle of the season. That year, he led Melrose to its first state championship since 1983, averaging 14 points per game.

McAfee scored a LeBron James Camp King City Classic record 47 points in Cleveland in July 2010. In the summer of 2010, he also attended the NBA Top 100 Camp, Paul Pierce Skills Academy and the LeBron James Skills Academy and King City Classic.

Manning also announced that red-shirt sophomore Blondy Baruti is medically unable to continue his playing career at TU. Baruti has suffered a foot injury. Baruti red-shirted last year after playing in 13 contests as a true freshman in the 2010-11 season.
