SAN DIEGO (AP) -- Rashad Smith scored 23 points and Tulsa won its second straight game with Danny Manning as coach, defeating Northern Kentucky 76-56 Thursday night in the NUCDF Basketball Challenge.
Scottie Haralson added 10 points for the Golden Hurricane (2-0), who shot 59 percent from the field.
Nate Snodgrass scored 12 points for Northern Kentucky (0-2), which is in its first year as a Division I program.
"We didn't play a great first half, but we did enough to stay in the ballgame," Tulsa Head Coach Danny Manning said. "We were able to come out in the second half with a little bit more energy and a little bit more focus, and get a nice lead."
Tulsa led 38-37 early in the second half when Smith took over. He hit two buckets and made 4 of 4 free throws sandwiched around a 3-pointer from Haralson as the Hurricane used an 11-2 run to go on top 49-39 with 13:21 left in the game. The Norse never got closer than seven points the rest of the way.
True freshmen Rashad Ray and James Woodard scored 9 points and 8 points, respectively, for the Hurricane.
