NEW ORLEANS (AP) - James Woodard led Tulsa with 21 points and 7 rebounds, but his potential game-tying three-pointer fell short with 4 seconds remaining, and TU fell at Tulane 75-72 on Saturday in Conference USA play.
Ricky Tarrant scored 21 points for Tulane, and Josh Davis finished with 19 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists.
Kendall Timmons added 12 points to help Tulane (13-5, 1-2) snap a five-game losing streak against the Hurricane.
Trailing 54-49 with 9:37 left to play, Tulane went on an 18-7 run to take a 67-61 lead with 3:44 remaining. Tarrant sparked the run with a pair of free throws, then capped it with consecutive 3-pointers.
Pat Swilling Jr. made a 3-pointer for Tulsa (11-8, 3-2) with 39 seconds left to cut the deficit to one, 71-70.
After Davis made a pair of free throws with 16 seconds to go, making it 75-72, Woodard missed the three-pointer that could have sent the game to overtime.
"This was a great team win and it was tremendous to have so many players step in big situations," Tulane head coach Ed Conroy said. "We've been in several close games and today we finally got over the hump. The one aspect we worked on hard all week from start to finish was sharing the basketball and I thought we really shared it well today.
"We didn't work as much on our pressure and our end of the game situations as we normally do because we worked so hard on sharing the basketball this week but I feel like we had it covered. We had our seniors out there. We had Ricky out there. We executed well down the stretch but I was disappointed on how we handled the ball a few of those times during the final minutes."
