Tulsa forward D'Andre Wright was selected as the C-USA Freshman of the Week by a media panel representing the 12 member schools. Wright repeats his honor from a week ago as he scored 14 of his 21 points after regulation in a 101-92 triple-overtime victory against Houston.
Wright scored 21 points on 8-of-11 shooting (72.7 percent) to lead Tulsa to a 101-92 triple-overtime win over Houston Saturday. Wright came up big in the extra periods, carrying the Golden Hurricane with 14 of the team's 31 overtime points.
Wright made 5-of-6 field goals and all four free throw attempts, and added four of his seven rebounds in overtime. Wright was also credited with two blocked shots and a steal. It's his second consecutive C-USA Freshman of the Week award.
The 6-foot-8 forward missed several games in the middle of the season due to a leg injury, but has come back strong.
"It feels good really," he said after Saturday's game. "You know, I had to get the stiffness out and keep it loose at times. In the first half I was in foul trouble so I was just trying to keep it loose on the bench. Pain-wise it's really getting better. I'm seeing a lot of improvement."
"We knew when we came into the game that Houston would be a tough team to beat. Once we got to overtime we knew that all of the offseason training that we've been doing would come into effect. We knew that their team was getting tired, so we just tried to put it on them and in the third overtime we finally pulled a win out."
Wright is averaging 8.3 points and 5 rebounds this season. He has played in 15 games with 8 starts.
