ITS releases initial 2014 Hot List
The dust has settled from National Signing Day for the class of 2013, and the attention is now focused on the rising stars of the 2014 class. The Tulsa coaching staff has deep roots in Oklahoma and Texas, and those fertile recruiting grounds produce most of the initial 2014 Hurricane Hot List, released today by InsideTulsaSports.com.
Over the last several years, it became apparent that the Golden Hurricane is not afraid of taking up recruiting battles against the nation's top programs. It has stayed that way under third-year head coach Bill Blankenship and his staff.
Over the past six years, TU has hosted several 4-star and 5-star prospects on official and unofficial visits. Although many signed elsewhere, Tulsa has pulled in a few of those 4-star recruits, including Rob Boyd in the 2013 class, as well as an increasing number of highly recruited 3-star prospects. Several of those players switched their commitment to Tulsa after being committed to BCS programs.
It appears that the 2014 class will be no different. Twenty prospects on the 2014 Hot List are currently listed on the Rivals250. Seven of those are in the Rivals100.
A few of the names on the 2014 Hot List have already given early verbal commitments to programs such as Arkansas, Texas and Texas A&M, but we've included them on the initial list since it is so early in the recruiting process and also to provide a true example of the quality talent TU coaches are targeting.
The majority of the Hot List is made up of players from two states. A whopping 51 of the 92 prospects on the initial 2014 Hot List are from Texas, and 25 are from Oklahoma. Also included on the list are four recruits each from Kansas and Missouri, as well as two from Arkansas and one from Louisiana.
But it doesn't end with the local region. As it has in the past two years, this Tulsa coaching staff is also reaching out to Colorado, Illinois and Nebraska.
This list, which is not any type of "official" list, contains only players that have been actively recruited by Tulsa coaches, as identified by our staff through conversations with the prospects and/or their coaches. This is an ever-changing list, as college coaches continue to evaluate prospects and extend scholarship offers. The list will continue to change throughout the recruiting process.
Without further ado, we give you the 2014 Hurricane Hot List.
