Tulsa tripped up at UCF
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - Pat Swilling Jr. led Tulsa with 19 points off the bench, including five three-pointers, but Tulsa fell 83-75 on the road to UCF.
Shaquille Harrison added 14 points for the Golden Hurricane and James Woodard scored 10. Swilling and Harrison both matched their season-high scoring totals for the Golden Hurricane.
Isaiah Sykes scored 22 points and Tristan Spurlock added 19 for Central Florida.
Sykes hit 6 of 13 from the field and 10 of 15 at the foul line and added seven rebounds. Spurlock also grabbed seven boards and added a 4-of-7 showing from 3-point range for the Knights (18-9, 8-5).
Tulsa (14-13, 6-7) led 38-35 shortly after halftime, but the Knights used a 7-0 run to take the lead. The Golden Hurricane pulled within 48-45 with 12:36 left, but then Sykes' layup sparked a 12-2 run to build an insurmountable cushion.
UCF's Keith Clanton hit 9 of 12 from the foul line and scored 15 points, and Matt Williams hit a pair of treys en route to 10 points.
"I am happy for these guys," UCF head coach Donnie Jones said. "That is the team that we have been all year long. I thought we played with some toughness and played together. We played defense every possession."
Tulsa improved its free throw shooting dramatically over their previous game. The Hurricane made 15 of 19 attemps for 79-percent. But UCF had a huge advantage at the charity stripe with 42 attempts, in which they made 31.
