The Washington State University men's basketball team continues to be represented well as sophomores DeAngelo Casto and Klay Thompson combined for nine points as they helped the USA remain undefeated with a second round 85-69 victory over Greece at the 2009 FIBA U19 Men's Basketball World Championships in Auckland, New Zealand.

Casto, who started and played just under 14 minutes in the game, scored the first bucket of the game and continued his torrid shooting pace in the tournament, hitting two of his three shot attempts to continue to lead the tournament in field goal shooting percentage with a 71% [10 of 14 from the field overall] accuracy rate and finished with six points and five rebounds. Thompson, meanwhile, hit his only shot attempt and made one of his two free throws for three points while bringing down three boards in just over 11 minutes of action. Both encountered foul trouble and both finished the game with four fouls each.

The Americans again bolted to their customary quick first-quarter lead, this time 6-2, but the Greeks came back and took a three-point lead over the USA late in the quarter - their first first-quarter deficit of the tournament. The Americans came back to grab a slim 18-17 lead at the end of the quarter and then fell behind by three again in the second quarter before gradually pulling away for a five-point halftime lead at 41-36. The USA took control of the game in the third quarter with a 17-6 opening run that gave them a 16-point lead at 58-42 before Greece chipped it down to 10 by the end of the quarter at 63-53. The Greeks trimmed the lead down to seven at 66-59 but the Americans put the game away with a 17-5 run in the final period.

The USA will next play Puerto Rico at 12:30 am on Tuesday, July 7.
