I liked both Romney and McCain before they decided to run for the Republican presidential candidacy. Their appeal was a rational, risk taking fiscal conservatism and an independent streak. But something happens to these guys when they run that destroys their integrity and makes it impossible to take them seriously. McCain got taken to the woodshed in S Carolina in 2000 and underwent a value change (and maybe a wife change as well) that made him unrecognizable by 2008. Mitt took the same trip only faster and farther in the last year. From pro-choice, pro rational constraints on guns, from pro-health care mandates (actually it was a conservative idea to begin with), etc. I don't mind if he says he changed his mind and gives his reasons for it, but instead he pretends that the never did those things. He's always been "pro-life", anti-health care mandate, pro NRA, etc. etc. Give me a break.
Maybe it something in the water...or the Kool Aid.
