Tulsa ready for match-up with ECU

The 2013 Conference USA Men's Basketball Championship began on Wednesday, but Tulsa doesn't get going until Thursday evening with a quarterfinal round matchup against East Carolina at 8:30 p.m. at the BOK Center.

"I'm excited to get a chance to continue our season, and we're looking forward to the challenge of our first game against East Carolina," said TU head coach Danny Manning. "We have the opportunity to lengthen our season. We're going to have to play with that sense of urgency from the tip."

The fifth-seed Golden Hurricane (16-14, 8-8 C-USA) and the fourth-seeded Pirates (18-11, 9-7 C-USA) met back on February 20 in Tulsa, with ECU claiming a 72-63 victory. Thursday's game will be the 12th meeting between the two, and the third in C-USA Tournament action -- the Hurricane won both previous contests, 65-60 in 2007, and 66-49, in 2008. TU leads the series 9-2 and has won eight of the last nine meetings.

"We've got a run in us, and it all starts with the first game," added Manning. "That's our focal point, and it's the only thing we're thinking about."
