TU Recruiting Update: Running Back
Tulsa had a stellar backfield with Trey Watts and Ja'Terian Douglas, but both are now gone, so picking up three running backs in the 2014 class is a priority for the Golden Hurricane.
It's always hard to project who will step up to take the place of a very productive departed senior.
"We always get to this point where you can't see in to the future, and you just don't know how we're going to make it," said Tulsa head coach Bill Blankenship. "If you go back to 2008 and 2009, we had a guy named Tarrion Adams that set all kinds of records. There really wasn't anybody in the core that you just said, 'that's going to be the next guy'. And then all of the sudden in 2010, Trey Watts shows up, and he's just a guy. Then little by little, he becomes the guy.
"Trey Watts, literally, a legit walk on guy that we just hoped could get in the program and see what he could do, and red shirts and a year later, he's starting in the opening game at East Carolina."
"I just think that's the nature of football. We don't know who that's going to be. Certainly look at Zack Langer and James Flanders and know they're in our program. We know we're recruiting some big-time running backs right now. I don't know where that will come from, but I'm confident that we'll have somebody that will be rushing that football, and we'll be talking about in a few years."
The Golden Hurricane currently has two running backs committed in the class of 2014, and several others have offers from Tulsa. The following is a rundown of where things stand...
