TU Football: Spring Practice Update

Tulsa has completed six spring workouts thus far, including several scrimmage situations on Saturday morning at Chapman Stadium. Several players stood out to the coaches.

"We did a lot of short-yardage stuff," said Tulsa head coach Bill Blankenship. "We tried to make sure we were getting goal-line and 4th down-and-one at the end of the scrimmage. We need to establish ourselves both offensively and defensively.

"It comes down to some point in football that you have to be physical, be able to stop teams and get them off the field and be able to get that yard offensively and keep the drive alive. We wanted to have some of the day devoted to that."

Overall, Blankenship saw the progress he was hoping for.

"I feel good about today," he said. "I thought today gave me enough glimmer on both sides of the ball that we can be an improved football team."

TU began Saturday's session with several first down plays from the 20 yard line. Sophomore running back James Flanders had an 80-yard scoring run and also sprinted out for a 19-yard gain. On a 4th-and-1 later in the scrimmage, Flanders took off for a 41-yard score.
