Woodard named C-USA Freshman of the Week

Tulsa freshman guard James Woodard received the first Freshman of the Week honor from C-USA in men's basketball this season. Awards are chosen by a vote from a media panel representing the 12 member schools.

Woodard had the top offensive performance of anyone in the league this week to take the Freshman of the Week title. He poured in 28 points in just 20 minutes on the floor as Tulsa won its season opener.

The guard from Edmond, Oklahoma, also added five rebounds and four assists Sunday to lead Tulsa to a season-opening 110-54 win over LSU Shreveport in the debut of first-year Head Coach Danny Manning. Woodard made 9-of-12 field goals, including 5-of-6 three-pointers and 5-of-5 free throws in 20 minutes on the floor. He tallied 18 points by halftime and connected on his first six shots of the game. He also committed no turnovers in the contest.

Woodard's 28 points were the most scored by a Tulsa freshman in 19 years, since Shea Seals scored 33 against Houston Baptist on Nov. 27, 1993. This is his first C-USA Freshman of the Week honor.
