Signing Day 2013!

The Tulsa coaching staff has put together yet another strong recruiting class, and it all culminates today for the class of 2013. This year's accumulation of talent should continue the trend of recent success, as TU won recruiting battles against several top programs, so let InsideTulsaSports.com guide you through the mountain of National Signing Day info!

Tulsa is expected to sign a number of top prospects, including four-star offensive lineman Rob Boyd from Vian (Okla.) and five three-star recruits. One early high school graduate, Abilene (Texas) receiver Keevan Lucas, enrolled at TU in January.

As another one of the Golden Hurricane's top recruiting classes, it includes four names from the Rivals.com Postseason Oklahoma Top 20, the No. 10 rated player in Arkansas and two recruits from the Dallas Area Top 100. The class also includes the nation's 16th-best offensive guard, 58th-best offensive tackle and 67th-best cornerback.

"We're really excited as this thing winds down," said Tulsa head coach Bill Blankenship. "We think (this group) continues to build on some of the success we've had. I think this is an absolutely great recruiting class. I won't rest until it's done, but this is a group that represents the state of Oklahoma very well. We're getting down into Texas. We're up into Missouri and Kansas. We think we've gotten some of the very best players in our area. We've beaten some big time schools to get some of these guys. That's important to us, but it's also important to get the right young men."

Stay tuned to InsideTulsaSports.com throughout the day and the next few weeks for more coverage from signing day, a look ahead at spring football, Tulsa's early 2014 recruiting targets, plus much more!

In most recruiting years, there seems to always be a surprise or two in Tulsa's recruiting class on National Signing Day or the final few days leading up to it. This year was no different, with five commitments and a few de-commitments in the past two weeks, and there will be some names to keep an eye on this morning, as TU waits for signatures to cross the fax machine.

St. Louis (Mo.) Christian Brothers running back Jonathan Parker committed to Tulsa back in September over offers from Ball State, Miami-OH, Ohio and Northern Illinois. However, after a solid senior season in which he rushed for 1,094 yards and 18 touchdowns on just 147 carries, he picked up a late offer from Iowa.

Parker took his official visit to Tulsa on January 25 and followed that up with a February 1 visit to check out the Hawkeyes. He had been solidly committed to TU for over four months, but now things are up in the air.

"I always liked Iowa, but they didn't talk to me much early on," Parker told HawkeyeReport.com on Sunday. "When they started showing interest, I thought I should take a visit just to see how things are there and see if maybe they offer something different than Tulsa."

Parker also said he was going to "wait about a day" before making a final decision.

"I'm going to go to school and talk with my coaches, talk with my family," he added.

But Monday turned into to Tuesday, and Parker still wasn't quite ready to decide. It became clear he would not have a final decision until National Signing Day.

Two other names to keep an eye on, especially if Parker chooses Iowa, are Tulsa (Okla.) Union athlete Hunter Atyia and Wagoner (Okla.) WR/DB Kerwin Thomas.

The 5-foot-10, 170 pound Atyia committed to Air Force after receiving a grayshirt offer from the Golden Hurricane. He made an official visit to TU on January 25, and afterward, he said Tulsa might lift the grayshirt stipulation from his offer before signing day, which could change things.

Thomas is also 5-10, 170 pounds, and he runs a legit 4.4-second forty-yard dash. Tulsa has recruited him for at least a year, and he attended a Hurricane junior day back in March.

"It's somewhere I can picture myself going," Thomas said of Tulsa early last year. "I really like that they are high on academics and the coaches are really genuine. They just don't tell you what you want to hear. It's just all around a comfortable place to me. The athletic facilities are really nice, and the housing is really nice too."

Thomas was a late qualifier, and when he earned a qualifying test score in December, he quickly committed to Wyoming. However, he has stayed in touch with Tulsa coaches ever since then.

Three or four other prospects to keep an eye on this morning are included in our 2013 Hurricane Hot List, which is a collection of top remaining recruiting targets.

Tulsa's high-profile commitments always seem to have late overtures from BCS programs in the final week leading up to signing day. While they appear to be solid with the Hurricane, it is always nerve-racking for TU coaches until they see faxes come in with those names on it.

InsideTulsaSports.com will keep you posted on all of these prospects, as well as any breaking news in Hurricane Alley.
