Watts named to Hornung Award Watch List

The Louisville Sports Commission named Tulsa running back Trey Watts to a list of 44 multi-talented college football players on the 2013 Watch List for the Paul Hornung Award, presented by Texas Roadhouse.

The Paul Hornung Award, now in its fourth season, is given annually to the most versatile player in major college football by the Louisville Sports Commission and football legend and Louisville native Paul Hornung.

The 2013 Watch List was compiled by a panel of college football experts based on a combination of 2012 statistics, career performance and expectations heading into the 2013 season.

As a junior last season, Watts (5-11, 200) ranked 11th nationally with 2,191 all-purpose yards, averaging 168.5 yards per game, and he posted over 200 all-purpose yards in five games. In his career, Watts has a total of 4,189 career all-purpose yards in 37 games. He was named the MVP of the 2012 AutoZone Liberty Bowl after gaining 249 all-purpose yards to help Tulsa to a 31-17 victory over Iowa State.

The shifty running back has 2,186 career rushing yards and ranks ninth on the school's all-time rushing chart. He was a second team all-Conference USA pick as a kick returner last year and picked up honorable mention accolades as a running back.

The Paul Hornung Award Watch List is comprised of 19 seniors, 21 juniors and four sophomores, representing 41 universities and 10 conferences that are part of the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS).

"The Paul Hornung Award Watch List for the upcoming season is an impressive group of players who excel at multiple positions to help their teams win, which is how I played the game," Hornung said. "It will be interesting to see which players excel during the season and emerge as the top choices of our selection committee.

"We have had the opportunity to welcome great young men to Louisville as winners of the Paul Hornung Award in years past, and I believe we are in line to welcome another great player to our community in 2014. I look forward to honoring the winner here in Louisville at one of the best banquets the country has to offer for college football players and their families."
