Decision looming for Austin PG

Austin (Texas) High School point guard Eric McClellan, one of the top 50 prospects in the Lone Star State, has narrowed his list to six schools, including the University of Tulsa. With the late basketball signing period already in progress, the 6-foot-3 athlete plans to make his decision known very soon.
"I plan to make my decision tonight with my mother," he told InsideTulsaSports.com this morning. "I plan to take my visit (to Tulsa) this weekend."

The visit to the Golden Hurricane campus is tentative, as it hinges on the choice he makes tonight.
"It's not set, but I call them tonight with my final decision," he added. "I really like the (Tulsa) program. I've watched about seven games on TV, and I really like their style of play, and the most important thing is the coaches."
Tulsa, Wichita State, Fresno State, Pepperdine, Tulane and SMU make up the final list from which he will choose. McClellan has been recruited by Tulsa for quite some time, and although his main contact, assistant David Cason, recently took a position at Vanderbilt, he says the other Hurricane coaches eased his concerns.
"Cason was the first coach recruiting me out of Tulsa, and we did have a great relationship," he explained. "When he told me he was leaving, I was kind of hesitant, but he broke it down for me, and Coach (Jeremy) Ballard and Coach (Doug) Wojcik really made me feel comfortable.
"We had our in-home visit on Friday, and when Coach Ballard and Coach Wojcik left, it was such a good vibe, and I really trust them with my career. It's going to be a tough decision, but by the grace of God, I'll make the right one."
McClellan led Austin to the UIL District 15-5A title and its first playoff win in 50 years, averaging 18.9 points, 6.4 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game. His team finished the season with a 29-4 record.
"My strengths are my unselfishness, vision, the tempo I play at, free throw shooting, and my length," he described. "Also leadership -- I think I've improved drastically in that area as well. I still have a lot of work to do in all areas of my game."
TexasHoops.com says McClellan "is a long and wiry guard with a versatile and solid all-around game. He handles the ball well and combined with his size is able to see over the defense and makes plays to the rim. He can knock down the open perimeter shot with 3 point range, can score in traffic, is a good passer off penetration and can push the ball up court in transition."
"(McClellan) is a smooth player who plays under control. He has the length and hands to really defend on the ball and create turnovers with deflections."
Stay tuned to Hurricane Alley this evening for updates on McClellan's decision.
