First early football signing day is here
Wednesday marks the first day of a brand new early signing period for high school seniors. As always, Inside Tulsa Sports will be here with full coverage before, during and after the signing period, which spans from Dec. 20 to Dec. 22.

For the first time, high school seniors can sign with Division I schools during a three-day early period that begins at the same time as the mid-year junior college transfer period. The early period for high-schoolers runs from Dec. 20 through Dec. 22, while mid-term juco prospects can sign between Dec. 20 and Jan. 15, 2018.
Both of those periods will be important for Tulsa, as the Golden Hurricane currently has 18 commitments in its 2018 recruiting class, including five junior college players. However, it's unlikely that all 18 will sign during the early period.
The regular signing period for football will begin, as usual, on the first Wednesday in February, when recruiting classes are finalized. For 2018, it will be February 7. Prospects that choose not to sign early will end up signing during the regular period.
Tulsa will ultimately sign approximately 23 prospects in the 2018 class, and we expect 16 of the current commitments to sign during the early period. Thus, there will be plenty of work left to do for TU coaches between Dec. 20 and Feb. 7.
The Inside Tulsa Sports staff has spoken to the majority of Tulsa's current commitments today, and most will sign with TU in the morning on Wednesday. We've been covering the majority of these recruits for over a year, and it appears there will be very little drama in the early signing period.
Several undecided prospects listed on our 2018 Hurricane Hot List are still in play for the Hurricane, and two of those made official visits to Tulsa on December 15. Those recruits expect to make final decisions in January and sign in February, and full details can be found in our Dec. 18 Recruiting Notebook.
