After visiting the Tulsa campus last weekend, Livermore (CA) Las Positas big man Peter Hewitt signed with the Hurricane on Monday. He is the third Division-1 transfer to sign with TU in the 2018 class.

The 6-foot-10 and 220 pound forward originally signed with UC Davis in the 2016 class and redshirted last season. He then transferred to Las Positas College and began receiving recruiting interest from TU, Virginia Tech, Washington State, Weber State and others.

Tulsa extended a scholarship offer on November 5 and Hewitt then made a trip out to watch TU play Lamar in its season opener on Friday.

“It was very good,” Hewitt said of the visit to Tulsa. “I really liked the facilities, and the coaching staff is great. I got a full tour of everything. The campus is very nice, and the athletic facilities are great too."

As a redshirt freshman at Las Positas, Hewitt has averaged 14.3 minutes per game in three contests, as the Hawks use a rotation of 13 players each game. However, in his limited minutes, Hewitt has managed to average 5.3 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.3 assists. In his most recent game on November 4, he scored 10 points on 5-of-5 shooting in 17 minutes.

“My strengths are rebounding, finishing around the basket and blocking shots,” Hewitt described. “My best features are my athleticism and size.”

Hewitt attended Saint Francis High School in Mountain View, California, leading his team to West Coast Athletic League titles in 2015 and 2016. SFHS also won two Central Coast Section championships. As a senior, Hewitt averaged 11 points, eight rebounds, two blocks and a steal per game.

Hewitt will have three years of eligibility remaining at Tulsa, joining guard Chris Barnes and wing Zeke Moore in the Hurricane’s 2018 recruiting class.

"We are so excited to be welcoming Peter Hewitt into the TU family," Haith said in a release. "Finding a versatile big man was a priority for us and Peter's athleticism allows him to play even bigger than his 6-foot-10 frame. Peter competes for one of the top junior college programs in California after starting his career at UC Davis.

"He is a tremendous student and has a feel for playing and competing at the Division I level. He also will have three years to compete at Tulsa, so he is someone our fans will enjoy following for the next three years."
