Lawton Mac kicker commits to TU

On Tuesday afternoon, the University of Tulsa picked up its fourth commitment in the class of 2012 when Lawton (Okla.) MacArthur kicker Daniel Schwarz called TU coaches with his verbal pledge. He fills a big need for the Hurricane, as kicker Kevin Fitzpatrick will be a senior at Tulsa next season.
Schwarz impressed coaches during a Tulsa camp this past weekend and came up with a scholarship offer.

"I got an offer yesterday, and today, I made the decision to commit to Tulsa," he explained. "(The camp) was great. I really enjoyed my time there."
The 6-foot-2 and 183-pounder said he quickly knew Tulsa was the place for him.
"It felt right to me," he said. "I have family in Tulsa, and I also have Michael Thomas, another football player from school, coming up to Tulsa next year."
Tulsa was the first school to extend an offer to Schwarz, but he was receiving attention from several others including Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas, Iowa State, Texas Tech, Texas A&M, Missouri, Houston, Rice and Florida International.
Schwarz was recruited to Tulsa by assistant coach Jess Loepp.
"Loepp is a great coach and feels like family," he added. "I can't wait to work with him and the staff."
Schwarz wasn't sure of his statistics from last season, but described his strengths as a kicker.
"I'm very good at kicking off, and I have great distance and height on my field goals," he said.
