Moore commits to Tulsa

On Tuesday, Inside Tulsa Sports reported that 6-foot-7 and 195 pound shooting guard Zeke Moore would visit the TU campus this weekend. Obviously, that visit was successful, as the former St. Louis Billiken committed to the Golden Hurricane on Sunday.

Last week, Moore told us he was "looking for the right fit. The right system with lots of space to play the mid-range and pick and roll game. Transition must be there too." He found it at Tulsa.

"They’re great guys -- down to earth," Moore said of the Tulsa coaches last week. “I’ve known some of the staff for quite some time now…since I was a sophomore in high school."

Moore had also taken an official visit to Valparaiso and held scholarship offers from Tulsa, Valpo, Pittsburgh, New Mexico and UTEP. Moore is currently attending Southwest Illinois Community College and will have three years of eligibility remaining.

Moore played in 29 games for the Billikens as a true freshman last season, averaging 5.3 points, two rebounds and one assist in 20.8 minutes per game. He connected on 39.1 percent of his three-point attempts and shot 76.7 percent from the free-throw line. His season-high marks included 12 points and four 3-pointers made at Richmond and five rebounds on two separate occasions.

“I’m a 6-foot-7 shooting guard that can play point,” he said when asked about his strengths on the basketball court. “Coaches have told me that I can dribble, pass and shoot, with great court vision and length on the perimeter.”

Moore attended Riverview Gardens High School in St. Louis, where he played for his father, head coach Gerard Moore. As a senior, he ranked among the St. Louis area leading scorers at 21.1 points per game while dishing out 4.4 assists per contest. He also shot 82.8 percent from the free-throw line and averaged three 3-pointers per game.

Moore helped Riverview Gardens win its first district title since 1998 while earning Class 4 first-team All-State honors from the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association.

In his junior season at Riverview Gardens, Moore averaged 25.3 points per game – second in the metro area – and led his team in assists and steals. He shot 62.8 percent (189-301) from the field and 52.2 percent (47-90) from beyond the arc. Moore was tabbed the Suburban North co-Player of the Year that season.
