Talented TX athlete waiting on offers

An outstanding athlete from the state of Texas has plenty of schools from across the country ready to make an offer as soon as he gets his test score. Although he played quarterback this past season, most schools, including the University of Tulsa, are looking at him as a wide receiver or defensive back.
Morris Crosby is a 5-foot-9 and 170-pound athlete from Alief Elsik High School in the Houston area. While running the option offense last season, Crosby rushed for 1,152 yards and 7 touchdowns on 153 carries last year. He also completed 20-of-56 passes for 387 yards and two scores.

Elsik Head Coach Bill Barron had plenty of good things to say about his star athlete.
"Morris is the finest overall athlete I have ever coached," he described. "He is tremendously gifted. He has a strong arm, good speed and vision. He is also the best competitor I have ever coached. And I have coached some kids that have played in the NFL."
"If he were to go to a school that ran the option, then he would be a fantastic quarterback," added Barron. "However, he will make a great running back, wide receiver, defensive back or slot back. He is so athletic. I know he has run a 10.74-second 100-meters this spring. He also runs the 200 and 400 meters, and competes on one of the top 400 meter high school relay teams in the country. To me, he reminds me of a Barry Sanders, due to his height, but he can play."
Crosby has garnered many honors the past couple of years, including being named to the second team All Greater Houston Underclassman Team last season. He also was selected the Class 5A Region 3 Player of the Week last year, after gaining 405 yards on 40 carries and 4 touchdowns against Katy. As a sophomore, he was an all-district wide receiver.
This year, he has been named a Texas Top 100 player, a 2004 Player to Watch by 5ATexasFootball.com and was listed as one of the top players at the All Greater Houston Combine in May, competing as an athlete.
Although many schools are recruiting Crosby, he told our staff, "I don't have any offers yet, but a number of them have told me they will offer as soon as I get a passing test score. I know Texas Tech, Tulane, Tulsa, Oklahoma State, Arkansas, Utah and Northwestern have all told me they will offer."
"I haven't camped anywhere yet this summer, but did attend the NIKE Training Camp in Baton Rouge in May," added Crosby. "I also attended the All Greater Houston Combine, and there I ran a 4.44-second forty yard dash. I plan to attend a camp at LSU, I believe on July 20."
Although he played quarterback last season, he did play wide receiver as a sophomore and thinks that would be his best position in college.
"I have plenty of speed and run sharp patterns," Morris explained. "I think I have great hands. Being a quarterback, I know the game and can read defenses, which will help me as a wide receiver."
Although he ran a good forty yard dash time at the All Greater Houston Combine
(4.44-seconds), his forty time at Baton Rouge was 4.64-seconds, which placed him tied for eighteenth out of over 30 participants at his position. However, he did well in the other events, placing third in the shuttle at 4.00 seconds, tied for eighth in the bench press (11 reps) and placed eighth in the vertical leap (33 inches).
Crosby doesn't seem concerned about that forty yard dash clocking in Baton Rouge.
"I have run a 4.44 at the other combine and a 10.74 100 meters and run between a 48 and 49 second 400 meters, so I have good speed," he stated.
With seven schools ready to pull the trigger on an offer as soon as he gets his test score, Crosby concluded by discussing his thoughts on the University of Tulsa.
"I have a lot of interest in them," he stated. "I like the coaches and the type of team they have."
