Countdown to Signing Day

Rowdy Frederick: "I'm ready to get this thing rolling."
Rowdy Frederick: "I'm ready to get this thing rolling."

It’s almost here! On Wednesday, February 3rd, another recruiting cycle culminates with National Signing Day. Here’s a look at where things stand for Tulsa with less than 24 hours to go.

For the most part, all of Tulsa’s current commitments appear to be solid with the Golden Hurricane. 3-star Cedar Hill (TX) receiver Josh Stewart explained that he was locked in with TU. Another big name on the offensive side is 3-star Broken Arrow (OK) lineman Rowdy Frederick, who hasn’t wavered since committing to TU in August. He took his official visit this past weekend.

“It was great, I loved it,” he described. “Blake Browning was my host, and we just went and hung out with the guys. (Philip Montgomery and Mike Bloesch) are great guys and coaches -- I'm ready to get this thing rolling.”

The 6-foot-4 and 330-pounder was straight to the point when asked about his goals for his freshman season at TU.

“I hope to show up and compete to be in the starting line up,” he said.

Rated as the nation’s No. 33 offensive guard and the No. 4 overall prospect in Oklahoma, Frederick helped Broken Arrow to an 11-2 record and an appearance in the state title game, where the Tigers fell 35-14 to Jenks.

“I felt like I had a great season personally, but it wasn't good enough because we didn't come out on top,” Frederick said. “But still extremely proud of myself and my team and will always be proud to be a Broken Arrow Tiger.”

Other TU commitments, such as Robert Revels and Deya Mhiesen, who have been pursued by Power Five programs, all appear to be solid with the Hurricane.

POSSIBLE SIGNING DAY SURPRISES

According to a photo posted on Twitter by the Tulsa Football account, the Hurricane sent out at least 19 letters of intent on Monday. Of the 20 members of TU’s 2016 recruiting class, two signed at mid-term, leaving 18 current commitments. Thus, at least one extra LOI was sent out, leaving room for a possible signing day surprise.

Possible additions to Tulsa’s class have been discussed in Hurricane Alley, and with an extra LOI or two being sent out, it should make for additional excitement on Wednesday.
