Tulsa has been looking to add a long-snapper to the 2017 recruiting class, and from the start, Gilbert (AZ) Perry’s Adam Higuera has been at the top of the list. His older brother, Rey, was a successful long-snapper for the Golden Hurricane from 2012 to 2015.

Rey came to Tulsa as a walk-on, handling snapping duties on special team from the start of his freshman season, and he was put on scholarship before his second season. The younger Higuera was offered a scholarship from TU before he was a senior in high school, back in May of 2016.

“Rey helps me out whenever he can, but the biggest piece of advice he gave me about Tulsa is that he had the most fun senior year playing for Coach Monty,” Higuera said, referencing Tulsa head coach Philip Montgomery.

The Kohl’s Kicking 5-star prospect made an official visit to Tulsa over the weekend of January 13 and came away impressed with every facet of the Hurricane program.

“I absolutely loved it. The coaches did a great job of spending time with the recruits and actually getting to know who we were, and the family atmosphere that whole program has is astonishing,” he explained. “I haven't found anything like that at another program thus far.”

While he had been on campus several times before during his brother’s time at TU, Higuera enjoyed getting a closer look at the campus and football facilities.

“I couldn't find a flaw with them even if I tried,” he described. “Beautiful campus and their facilities are second to none.”

Higuera is a consistent and technically sound deep-snapper, rated as high as No. 2 nationally at his position. He was named a Ray Guy All-American and played for the Pacific Team in the Blue-Grey All-American game last weekend.

Higuera helped Perry have a strong season last year and continues to work on his skills for the next level. He garnered First-team All-State honors as a senior.

“My school had the best year since we opened with an 11-2 record. I had great snaps all year long, and I think I was able to help out on punt a lot this year as far as covering,” he said. “But I do my best to strive for perfection, so every day in the offseason is spent training and preparing to play on a college field next season.”

Aside from Tulsa, Higuera also holds offers from Arizona, New Mexico State, Wyoming and Army. He took an official visit to Wyoming back in October and currently has a visit scheduled for January 27.

“I was planning on taking a visit to Navy the week after signing day, but I have since cancelled it,” he explained. “I take my last one to New Mexico State on Jan 27-29. If nothing else changes, I'll make my decision after that weekend and sign February 1st.”
