"Credit Tulsa with their execution," said Tulane head coach Ed Conroy. "They did a very good job down the stretch. They were able to get the ball inside three straight times to three different guys and it was hard for us to figure out a match-up. They have that great size across the board and were able to get inside scores."
Ricky Tarrant and Jordan Callahan scored 21 and 16 points respectively for the Green Wave.
Tulsa, which got 12 points and 12 rebounds from Kodi Maduka, and 11 points apiece from Scottie Haralson and Steven Idlet, led 63-55. Tulane rallied to tie it 63-63.
A foul shot apiece by Tre Drye and Tarrant put Tulane up 65-63. Clarkson, though, stuck a 3-pointer and Idlet answered Drye's layup with a jumper to make it 68-67. Tarrant's basket gave Tulane its last lead, 69-68.
Haralson's jumper with 35 seconds remaining regained the lead, and McClellan's two free throws with 17 seconds clinched it.
Tulsa shot 54.0 percent from the floor and hit six 3-pointers, while Tulane hit 47.1 percent from the floor and had eight 3-pointers. Tulsa outscored Tulane 40-22 in the paint.
