Tulsa putting final touches on 2017 recruiting class
As the authority on Tulsa football and basketball recruiting for over 15 years, Inside Tulsa Sports has a plethora of coverage coming for National Signing Day on Wednesday. ITS has covered the 2017 Tulsa Football recruiting cycle for almost two years – ever since the Hurricane extended an offer to Collinsville linebacker Levi Draper back in April of 2015 – and it all culminates when Tulsa’s recruits turn commitments into signatures on February 1.
Tulsa coaches are in the process of putting the final touches on the 2017 class, as they wait to hear the decision of a few more prospects including Plano (TX) OL Gerard Wheeler, who switched his commitment from Louisiana-Monroe to Tulsa this afternoon.
"Everything the school has to offer and the great opportunity ahead of me," Wheeler said of why he ultimately chose the Hurricane.
Wheeler also held offers from Stephen F. Austin, Central Arkansas, The Citadel and Missouri State. He made his official visit to Tulsa last weekend.
“It was good - it's a great place to be,” he said of his trip to TU. “The guys on the team were very welcoming, and the other recruits were cool guys to be around.”
As a senior, Wheeler graded at 90-percent or above in all 10 games. He had 43 pancake blocks and 67 blocks that triggered explosive plays. He was a District 6-6A First-Team selection and also made the All-Collin County First-Team.
