Wright earns C-USA honor

Tulsa's D'Andre Wright was voted the C-USA Freshman of the Week by a media panel representing the 12 member schools. It was the first such honor for the 6-foot-8 forward.
Wright scored 25 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead Tulsa to a 74-70 Conference USA road win at UTEP Saturday. It was his first significant playing time since suffering a leg injury in December. The rookie from Lawton, Okla., was dominant in just 21 minutes, as he made 9-of-12 field goals and 7-of-10 free throws in the game. His performance led the Golden Hurricane as it completed its sweep of the Miners this regular season.

Wright made 5-of-6 free throws and 3-of-4 field goals with five rebounds in the second half, holding off the Miner surge. He stepped up to the challenge of playing 21 minutes - as many as he had played in his previous two games combined as he worked back to full game-strength - and was strong at the end of the game as Tulsa's only post player with fewer than four fouls.
This is his first C-USA Freshman of the Week award. It is the fourth Freshman of the Week honor for a Golden Hurricane player, as guard James Woodard has received the award three times this season.
