Tulsa senior running back D’Angelo Brewer was named to the 2017 Maxwell Award Watch List as one of the nation’s top collegiate football players on Monday, and junior offensive lineman Willie Wright was nominated for the 2017 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team. Junior center Chandler Miller joined the fun on Tuesday when he was named to the 2017 Rimington Trophy Preseason Watch List.

Brewer ran for 1,435 yards last season and is the American Athletic Conference’s top returning rusher from a year ago. He combined with James Flanders to become only the second Tulsa running duo in school history to each rush for over 1,000 yards in the same season.

A second-team all-conference selection last season, Brewer has posted 2,400 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns in his career, currently ranking ninth on the school's all-time rushing chart. He needs 1,252 yards to pass Tarrion Adams (2005-08) for the school’s all-time rushing record.

Willie Wright, a 6-foot-3 and 295-pounder from Houston, Texas, is a two-year starter at right tackle for TU, and along with Miller, helped the Hurricane put up over 300 yards in eight games last season. All three players helped Tulsa’s offense to rank among the top teams in the NCAA for total offense (4th), scoring (7th), rushing (8th) and passing (30th).

The Allstate Good Works Team is one of the most prestigious off-the-field honors in college football, and Wright has spent time volunteering, mentoring and speaking at Kendall-Whittier Elementary School, Rogers Middle School, Hawthorne Middle School and Marshall Elementary School. According to TU, Wright has also participated in the Martin Luther King Day Parade, Tulsa's Shadow a Student-Athlete Day, made hospital visits to St. Francis Children's Hospital, and has volunteered for the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma and Lift Up America.

Wright has been an active member of TU's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, the Association of Black Collegians and the Black Men's Initiative. Last year, Tulsa quarterback Dane Evans was one of 24 student-athletes named to the 2016 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team.

Chandler Miller was previously named to the Rimington Award's spring watch list in May and remains on the preseason watch list. The 6-foot-3, 293-pounder was also on the watch list last season. He graded out at over 90-percent in eight games last season. In his first two seasons, Miller has started all 26 career games at the center position for Tulsa.
